The
CubeSat Project is a collaborative effort between Cal Poly
SLO, and Stanford University's Space Systems Development Laboratory.
The purpose of the project is to provide a standard for the
design of picosatellites such that a common deployer is used.
The objective is reduced cost and development time, increased
accessibility to space, and frequent launches. Currently more
than 30 high schools, colleges, and universities from around
the world are developing CubeSats. At Cal Poly, a complete
CubeSat deployment solution has been developed. The Poly Picosatellite
Orbital Deployer (P-POD) provides a mechanical interface between
the launch vehicle and three CubeSats.
The
Cal Poly Picosatellite Project (PolySat) was founded in 1999
and involves a multidisciplinary team of undergraduate and
graduate engineering students working to design, construct,
test, launch, and operate a CubeSat. The project is currently
accepting applications for new project members for the CP2
team. CP1, the first satellite developed at Cal Poly, is designed
with the objective of providing a reliable bus system to allow
for flight qualification of a wide variety of small sensors
and attitude control devices. The CP2 team is currently seeking
funded payloads.
